The fashion industry, although centre staged in Europe and America, has grown into a glamorous global industry with designers from all over the world reaching for it. One way high-end brands like – Valentino, Fendi, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent – showcase their clothing and branded accessories to the public are through runways. Quite similar to the growth in luxury brands, runways have evolved into bigger spaces and increased collaborations with different entities and cultures.
With models being the faces behind major luxury brands, and the main characters of every runway, shows their importance within the fashion industry. Highlighting their roles also means noticing the tone that many black and African models have set on the global fashion stage.

Spotlighting the careers of Ghanaian models, needs a highlight of our own fashion industry. According to Statista, “the revenue generated in the Apparel market in Ghana is projected to reach US$3.11bn in 2024”. Textile brands like Vlisco, Akosombo textiles and others like Chrissie Brown, Ajabeng etc. have being instrumental to the growth of the industry. Likewise runway shows like the Accra Fashion Week, OWO (Obroni Wawu October) event and Kumasi Fashion Week. With the growth projected for the Apparel brands and excelling of young Ghanaian models, more impact would be made for the local industry and designers.
