If you have no internship this vac, these are other productive activities you can do
If you are a University student, then you are probably home for the long vacation. That means you have months of no lecturers, no early morning classes, running to catch a shuttle, no room mate quarrels. As interesting as it may sound, the long vacation can be really long and boring. Especially when you don’t have an internship with a company.
Boring or not, the long vacation presents you with a very important asset. Time!
The free time on your hands can be used to grow and develop yourself positively. Whatever you do may even pay you in the future.
In this post, we share a few things you can do with the time you will have during the long vacation.
LEARN A SOFTWARE
Your laptop, phone or tablet can do more than just movies and series. Find a software and start learning how to use it. There is a software for whatever passion you have. Just download the software or ask a friend if they have and start learning to use it. Don’t be intimidated by the interface of the software. Just start and make your mistakes. Remember that every pro was once a learner. A few softwares we recommend are Photoshop, Lightroom, Adobe Premiere, Cubase.
STUDY A CRAFT
We often underestimate our hands and how helpful they can be. After months of using your brains in school, your long vacation is a good period to train your hands on something new. You can learn basic skills like photography, learning an instrument, interior decorating, make-up, programming or coding. There are lots of tutorials and DIYs online to help you. All you have to do is enroll at University of Youtube and some time there.
READ, READ, READ
There are so many secrets in books. So much knowledge and wealth of wisdom and knowledge about almost everything in this world. All you have to do is to read. The time on your hands this vacation will give you enough freedom to read any book you want. Research on any subject area you are interested in and find out the books you need to read. There are thousands of free PDFs available online.
SOCIAL MEDIA FOR GOOD
Since you will be on social media mostly, you might as well make the most out of it. Instead of watching pictures of your friends and the fun they are having during the vacation, follow accounts of companies, and people who inspire you. If you like food, follow food blogs. If you like fashion, follow fashion brand accounts. Try and connect with young professionals in the field you want to work and try to connect with them. If you will use your data on social media, you might as well use it for something good.
GET ON LINKEDIN
LinkedIn is a place for professionals. Most young people don’t have an account because you may think you are not working yet or you are to young to have a Linkedin account. Linkedin can be a very important tool in connecting with professionals and reading about industry trends. Create an account there and spend a little more time there and maybe you will get an internship next long vac.
PLAN
For most of your life, you’ve probably not had the time to plan for yourself. Is the program you are studying in school what you really want to do? Where do you want to work after school? Should you start dating? How can you make some extra cash on the side? There are so many questions that you can answer simply by using the free time you have on your hands to think.
