Every year, freshers flood university campuses with happy about the excitement and fun University brings and also uncertain but hopeful about what the future may bring their way. Either ways, we are sure it will be one of your best years on campus and its necessary that you are prepared for all the highs and lows it may bring.

In this article, we share six simple tips you should have in mind as a fresher to make the most out of your first year on campus. 

1. Yes to Adventure, No to Drugs

According to numerous internet college uncles and aunties, “Try to say yes as much as possible.” Not to drugs (of course) but to new opportunities and adventure, That upcoming seminar on Wednesday? Go for it, you would never know where your next job will come from. 

2. Keep your mouth closed to stay Alive

Since it’s a new environment and you don’t know many people you will be meeting, be wary of anything you are handed. Most especially food and drinks, next thing you know you are ingesting edibles or a substance you may be allergic to. A general rule is to say no to anything you have to drink, inhale or eat if you are not sure of the source or the person offering.

3. Lock in from Day 1

Lock in the minute you step foot on campus; It is a well known fact that the higher you go academically, the tougher it gets. So make sure you are flying well above average in your first year. Even if your grades sink a little in the subsequent years, you would have an overall good Grade Point Average. Work had to make your parents and people who care about you proud. You’ve got this.

4. Own a Formal Attire

Have at least one formal attire. Some programs on campus will require you to look formal however the clothes, also some courses may require you to dress formally for presentations. Be sure to have the clothes ready for such moments.

5. Network, network, network

Almost every influential person cites networking as a rocket the top. Campus is the best place for networking, your dorm mates, class makes and almost everyone you walk by might become someone very important you may need in the near future. So, be open minded about meeting new people and getting to know them. Remember to attend campus conferences with the goal to learn and meet experts in certain fields.

6. Learn with study Apps

Make good use of study apps. Studying can be made a hundred times easier with apps like Quizlet and many others which can help you learn more efficiently and effectively to ace your exams.

Good advice is endless but stick with these six and it is safe to say you would be swimming through university head above water.
