Joeboy Unveils “Taxi Driver,” a Soulful Glimpse into Viva Lavida

  • March 18, 2025

Following the electrifying launch of SMH, Joeboy is keeping the momentum alive with “Taxi Driver,” the latest offering from his highly anticipated third studio album, Viva Lavida. Produced by Xtofa, with additional production by longtime collaborator Tempoe, the introspective yet infectious track is set to drop a month after SMH, further shaping the sonic world of Viva Lavida.

At its core, “Taxi Driver” explores the unexpected catharsis found in the backseat of a cab—an unassuming space where people often unburden their emotions to a driver they may never see again. The song mirrors this fleeting sense of intimacy, weaving Joeboy’s signature melodies with evocative storytelling that captures the paradox of anonymity and vulnerability.

“Sometimes, the only person who truly listens is a stranger who has no stake in your life,” Joeboy shares. “I wanted to capture that moment when you’re in a taxi, lost in your thoughts, talking about your life like it’s a movie script, knowing that by the time you step out, it all stays in that car.”

Written by Daniel Eyiaromi and Joeboy himself, “Taxi Driver” seamlessly blends emotive lyricism with Joeboy’s signature sonic finesse. The single is yet another testament to his ability to translate personal and universal experiences into compelling music, reinforcing his status as one of Afrobeats’ most consistent hitmakers.

The release of “Taxi Driver” follows Joeboy’s remarkable run in 2024, a year that saw him solidify his presence on the global stage. From his 3,000-capacity homecoming show in Lagos, where he first unveiled the Viva Lavida album title, to a sold-out Australian tour, Joeboy has continued to prove his reach is limitless. His recent singles, including Osadebe(20M+ streams), Adenuga ft. Qing Madi (54M+ streams), Concerning (2.3M+ streams), and Zombie (4.8M+ streams), have cemented his dominance in the digital era.

As Viva Lavida approaches, Joeboy’s partnership with Warner Music Africa continues to bolster his global footprint. With a track record of genre-defining hits and a steadily growing international fan base, “Taxi Driver” is set to be another milestone in his already illustrious career.
