Events that are often associated with “Detty December” may lead you to believe that this festive period is the only time for celebration. However, it’s important to recognize that many activities occur well before “Detty December.” As we enter the BER months (September, October, November, and December), expect a plethora of events throughout the year.

Most of these gatherings focus on diasporas returning home to reconnect with their roots, while others provide opportunities for individuals to relax and unwind after a demanding work year. Here are some noteworthy events to keep in mind. Be sure to mark them on your calendars, set reminders, and utilize other tools to fully enjoy the experiences of the events you wish to attend.

1. AFROFUTURE

Abdul Abdullah & Kennedy Agyapong Junior [son of politician, entrepreneur & well renowned Kennedy Agyapong], two friends & entrepreneurs decided to create and launched their debut 2019 Afrofuture [now Afrochella] at El-Wak Stadium, housed Wizkid, Amaarae, Kwesi Arthur and top notch artistes to grace the stage of Afrofuture [formerly Afrochella]. The goal is not just to have fun and experience what an event is about but it is more about connecting the diasporas back to their roots to create opportunities they have always wanted and also being able to realize how Ghana has the best hospitality.

Afrofuture will invade the Accra Polo Beach Shoreline on December 28-29, 2024, featuring captivating displays, adrenaline-pumping performances from DJs, and boundless energy from both local talents and renowned artists they have enlisted.

2. Tidal Rave

As the name suggests, this event is located near the shoreline, with appropriate security and safety measures in place. Tidal Rave is managed by Echo House, which has subsidiaries in Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, and other countries worldwide. This event marks the beginning of the summer season, welcoming individuals of all ages to come and enjoy not only fun but also the opportunity to socialize with people from around the globe.

The focus historically has been on leveraging touchpoints (music, fashion, dance, technology, etc.) to connect and build a community that continues to challenge the event to do more and be more. For the last 10 years, Tidal Rave has become not only an avenue for young Africans to blow steam but also a place for new connections, old friends reconnect, acquaintances, fast-coming friends and friends becoming family, a bite or sip at a time, a beat or a chorus now and familiarity beyond the gimmicks.

3. Global Citizen Festival

Global Citizen is an international NGO that covers up issues globally surrounding poverty, climate change and other humanitarian issues. Global Citizen Festival comes as a result of giving back to society in form of entertainment. They have organized severally within the European countries, Global Citizen debut in South Africa back in 2018 under the Mandela 100, to honor Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday. the event featured performances from Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Pharrell Williams and other international and acts from their home country.

More recently, Global Citizen hosted the second edition of its event in Ghana, coinciding with the country’s 65th independence celebration. This event took place at the Black Star Square in Accra and featured performances by Usher, SZA, Gyakie, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy, with a surprise appearance by Kwesi Arthur during Stormzy’s performance alongside Yaw Tog, among others.

Rwanda hosted Global Citizen in collaboration with Move Afrika, featuring energetic performances from artists and dancers from Rwanda, alongside headliner Kendrick Lamar. Global Citizen is set to return in November to host another event in Ghana.

4. Rapperholic

The most popular event, Rapperholic, is an annual celebration hosted by award-winning rapper Sarkodie for his fans and the world at large. It has become the most anticipated show in Ghana, particularly during the holiday season. The concert is part of a Christmas party that SarkCess Music is organizing in the nation’s capital to delight music enthusiasts and Sarkodie’s followers.

The event, traditionally held on Christmas Day, has become a significant addition to Ghana’s annual activities calendar, attracting thousands of visitors.

Sarkodie announced this year’s show on social media, sending his devoted followers into a frenzy. His supporters and music enthusiasts will come together on a single platform to celebrate Christmas this year.

Although many details about the artistes who will perform with Sarkodie are yet unknown, BEATWAVES has learned that the event will feature performances from some of the biggest selling artistes, who will rock the stage with Sarkodie.

Sarkodie, who is the headline act, is expected to thrill music fans with songs such as Ofeetso, Happy Day, Pain Killer, U Go Kill Me, Saa Okodie No, Borga, Can’t Let It Go, Gboza, Overdose, among others at the concert.

Over the years, the concert has given the opportunity to some Ghanaian artistes such as Fuse ODG, Shatta Wale, Samini, R2bees, E.L, Efya, Stonebwoy, Strongman, Akwaboah, among a host of others, to perform on the same stage with Sarkodie

5. ZAAMA DISCO

Zaama Disco is a vibrant expression of life for the youth of Ghana and beyond. It is a fusion of arts, fashion, and music from diverse backgrounds, uniting the Blacko Tribe. Zaama Disco aims to instill a spirit of adventure, cooperation, and a pursuit of excellence in the realms of art and culture, while fostering feelings of fraternity, patriotism, unity, and brotherhood.

Hosted during the Detty December period, housing fans gathered under one roof from different demographics. Headlining with global superstars from Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica & a whole lot more. To miss a BHIM CONCERT should not be of an attitude, the more you miss, the better your chance of setting history amongst the rest. He has shared the stage with the late Costa Titch from South Africa, Jahmiel, Busy Signal & 10Tik from Jamaica. Fans are now anticipating to see who he sets to collaborate on stage with next.

7. Around the World

Introducing one of the calmest events & the most delicious event of them all in Ghana “Around the World”. This is set to be a one-of-a-kind event dedicated out there for family & friends to engage & discover new cultures and connect people through our common love for mouth-watering foods from around the globe. 8. PROMISELAND

It came from entrepreneur & award winning musician Oluwatosin Oluwole Adjibade popularly identified as Mr. Eazi. Arguably the best event which tends to close the year of all events, Detty Rave. Hosted by non other, Mr. Eazi, hosting Detty Rave 5 times so far becoming the fastest outdoor event not just for patrons to attend but for artistes anticipating to catapult their name on there. 

Detty Rave is renowned for engaging with fans around the world & gracing the stages with top DJs & artistes not just from Ghana but the diasporas section like Rick Ross, Koffee & so many more. Forthcoming years promises to be electrifying.
